Welcome to the Industrial Energy Systems Laboratory (LENI)

LENI is a center of excellence in teaching and research related to thermodynamics and to sustainable engineering of energy systems (thermal or electrochemical) and industrial processes.

In the Mechanical Engineering Section , LENI, headed by Prof. Daniel Favrat , is a member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IGM) in the school of engineering "Sciences et Techniques de l'ingénieur" (STI) at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology - Lausanne (EPFL).

LENI develops thermodynamically based generic methodologies for the integration and optimization of complex energy systems and networks increasingly accounting for LCA factors. LENI leads theoretical and experimental studies of energy conversion systems and equipment with a growing emphasis on decentralized cogeneration (including fuel cells), renewables (solar, biomass) and heat pumps.

LENI is active in research and teaching in three main sectors :

LENI is an active partner in the Alliance for Global Sustainability between MIT, the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology and the University of Tokyo.

Member of EPFL Transportation Center
